Important Dates

July 20: Residence halls close at 12:00 noon for students attending Long Term

July 23: Last day of classes for Term B and Eagle Incentive Program Session

July 24: Final exams, Term B and Eagle Incentive Program Session

July 24: Final exams for Evening classes, Term B and Eagle Incentive Program Session

July 24: Final date for graduate and undergraduate students to apply for Fall 2008 graduation

August 8: New Faculty Orientation for Tenure Track and Full-Time Temporary Faculty

August 11: New Final deadline for domestic graduate students to apply for Fall 2008 admission to any COBA graduate program

August 14: Employee Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) registration for Fall 2008, via the web beginning at 8:30 a.m.

• August 15: Residence hall check-in, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the RAC and 6:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m. in the residence halls

• August 16: New Student Orientation and Registration, Russell Union, 8:00 a.m. – NOTE: Enrolled and former students should refer to WINGS (http://students.georgiasouthern.edu/registrar) for specific registration times.

• August 17: Conversations with Professors for all new first-year students, 3:30- 4:45 p.m.

August 18: Fee payment deadline for Fall 2008 (First Day of University Classes)

August 18: Classes Begin

August 18-21: Drop/Add

August 22: $100 Late Registration Fee begins

AACSB International re-accredits business education at Georgia Southern University!

The Georgia Southern University SHRM Student Chapter has earned the Merit Award.

Southern Conference Distinguished Service Award was given to Tim Durden, an ’84 alumnus in construction management. Congratulations Tim!

The Bureau of Business Research and Economic Development reports the direct economic impact of the 2008 Tour De Georgia event at $38.6 million. Read more about this evaluation!

In this month’s Lessons in Leadership column titled “Counseling Employees,” Dr. Bill McCartney offers excellent advice for those who must address poor performance or behavioral problems with employees.

Our intrepid financial guru, Ed Sibbald, wrote his most recent column titled “Federal Reserve Bank Policy: What’s Next?” about the Fed’s decision – to raise, lower, or leave interest rates unchanged – at the most recent Federal Open Market Committee meeting.

Ann Kelly supplied this week’s book review of “The Best Service Is No Service: How to Liberate Your Customers from Customer Service, Keep Them Happy & Control Costs” by Bill Price and David Jaffe. It won’t take you long to get into this book after you read some of Ann’s perspectives

Congratulations to Dr. Jill Lockwood! She passed all the tests to become a FINRA arbitrator!! Financial Information Regulatory Authority (FINRA) arbitrator resulted from the merger between the New York Stock Exchange and the National Association of Securities Dealers.

The Library of Congress has designated an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN 1942-9053) to The Journal of Forensic Studies in Accounting and Business. Learn more about the journal by contactnig Don Berecz.

Congratulations to Dr. Ednilson Bernardes! His paper titled “An examination of strategic supply management benefits and performance implications” has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management.

Congratulations to Dr. Greg Brock whose article titled "Grain exports from 'virgin lands': Threat or promise?" was recently published in the Farm Policy Journal. Good work, Greg.

Dr. Dwight Sneathen received a good-news letter from the editor of the Journal of Business and Economics Research regarding his paper titled “Evidential effort and risk assessment in auditing.” And … he earned the designation Certified Public Accountant from the State of Georgia. Double good, Dwight!!

The latest edition of the “Top University Sales Education Programs” for 2008 was just released as a supplement to Selling Power Magazine, and for the second year in a row, we are included in the list. Congratulations to our sales and marketing faculty who continue to move our program toward national recognition!
