| What
is Logistics and Intermodal Transportation? |
| Logistics and Intermodal Transportation (LIT) is one of Georgia
Southern's fastest growing majors. It serves the needs of a dynamic
industry. Logistics is ensuring the availability of the right product,
in the right quantity and the right condition, at the right place,
at the right time, for the right customer, at the right cost. Intermodal
transportation is combining the cost and/or service advantages of
more than one mode of transportation in an efficient, seamless production
movement. |
| |
| Why
Major in LIT? |
| Logistics and transportation provide a wide range of exciting career
opportunities. Georgia Southern's major in logistics and intermodal
transportation prepares students for the many jobs available in this
challenging and rapidly expanding field with a focused, career-oriented
program in the College of Business Administration. Graduates earn
the Bachelor of Business Administration degree (BBA), with a major
in logistics and intermodal transportation. |
| |
| What
is the Course of Study for an LIT Major? |
The LIT major provides a focus on logistics and transportation
concepts and principles. Advanced courses focus on logistics operations,
international issues, and intermodal transportation. LIT majors
will complete courses, in addition to LIT, that provide a background

potential, and financial need.
Financial support for the scholarship program is provided by the

agencies are periodically invited to campus for a variety of functions
that directly involve students. The program is also supported by
logistics professionals through the Transportation Industry Advisory
Board that
administers the scholarship and endowment funds and the LIT program
Advisory Board, which reviews course content and assesses future
needs
for the program. |
| |
| Career
Placement |
| National, regional, and local organizations interview students on
the Georgia Southern campus. Career opportunities and interviews are
coordinated through the Career Services Office. Students may also
receive help in writing resumes, exploring career alternatives within
the LIT major, and organizing job searches in the Student Services
Center. |
| |
| Internships |
| The LIT program offers a supervised internship program in which
students can earn academic credit and gain professional experience
in a structured work setting. Student eligibility is based upon grade-point
average and other criteria and selection by the host organization. |
| |
| Off-Campus
Learning |
| Students field trips are unique feature of the LIT program. Recent
tours have included visits to the Georgia Ports Authority, Wal-Mart
Distribution Center, The Home Depot Distribution Center, and Delta
Airlines. The LIT program also benefits from its relationship with
the Georgia Freight Bureau. Each year, a group of students is selected
to participate in the International Intermodal Expo. |
