What is Accounting?

Accounting is the language of business. The accounting function is responsible for assessing the bottom-line productivity of all types of organizations from businesses to governmental units to not-for-profit organizations and everything in between. Accounting systems capture, summarize, and report financial information for use in charting an organization's future. Using their analytical abilities, accountants turn financial information into knowledge, acting as strategic partners, advisors and information providers to their companies and clients. Surveys confirm that accountants are among the most respected of all professionals. In short, accounting professionals provide big picture thinking and an understanding of how financial data impacts every aspect of the organization.
