Undergraduate
Program Outcomes
The
BBA Degree with a major in Accounting is designed to provide both entry-level
competence to make sound independent judgments and a foundation for
career development. The type of student served by the program is pursuing
a career in industry, finance, government, or not-for-profit organizations
or is preparing for further study in law school or in graduate programs
in accounting and business. The state of Georgia is the primary geographical
orientation for our graduates; however, placement at the national and
international levels is common. We seek the following outcomes from
our undergraduate accounting program:
- To increase
the student's understanding of accounting and ethical issues related
to business decisions and the functions of accounting within the
global business entity and the responsibility of accountants to
users of financial reporting.
- To increase
the student's problem-solving abilities.
- To increase
the student's communication skills.
- To increase
the student's interpersonal skills.
Graduate
Program Outcomes
The
graduate accounting programs are designed to provide advanced study
in accounting and business. The type of student served by the program
aspires to high levels of success in his or her accounting or business
career. The curriculum will satisfy the educational requirements for
the CPA certificate in those states specifying 150 semester hours of
study. The state of Georgia is the primary geographical orientation
for our graduates; however, placement at the national and international
levels is common. We seek the following outcomes from our graduate accounting
program:
- To
increase the student's intellectual skills.
The MAcc program at GSU is designed to produce "critical thinkers."
Students will obtain the academic course work to equip them with
the knowledge necessary to function as accounting professionals.
The successful student will be able to solve a diverse set of problems
in unfamiliar settings. The student will be able to comprehend an
unfocused set of facts, identify and, if possible, anticipate problems,
and find acceptable solutions. Inductive thought processes and capabilities
for judgment are developed throughout the program to enable the
student to identify ethical issues and apply a value-based reasoning
system.
- To
increase the student's communication skills.
Courses are developed to allow the student to present and defend
his or her views through a system of formal and informal, written
and oral responses. The courses offered in the MAcc program will
enable the student to listen effectively, to gain information, and
to understand opposing points of view. The successful student will
be able to locate, obtain, and organize information from both human
and electronic sources.
- To
increase the student's interpersonal skills.
Courses are designed to allow the students to work in groups to
accomplish specified tasks and objectives.
Courses will mirror the fact that the accounting professional must
advise clients on the operation of their businesses.
