LIT FacultyThe LIT faculty at Georgia Southern is committed to building a nationally recognized logistics program. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, faculty members participate in student advising and career preparation, maintain close contact with industry through membership in key professional organizations, and contribute to the discipline through research and publication activity. The LIT faculty also serves as the staff of the Southern Center for Logistics and Intermodal Transportation. | Karl B. Manrodt, Ph.D.
Dr. Manrodt serves an Associate Professor in the Department of Management, Marketing and Logistics and Georgia Southern University, located in Statesboro, Georgia. Prior to joining Georgia Southern, he served as the Executive Director for the Office of Corporate Partnerships and the Supply Chain Strategy Management Forum in the Department of Marketing, Logistics and Transportation at the University of Tennessee. Degrees include a B.A. in Philosophy and Psychology, Wartburg College, M.S. in Logistics, Wright State University, and his Ph.D. at the University of Tennessee. He is the recipient of the Chancellor's Citation for Professional Promise, the Walter Melville Bonham Dissertation Scholarship, both at the University of Tennessee, and the E. Grosvenor Plowman Award awarded by the Council of Logistics Management. Teaching and research interests include information technology and its impact on supply chain management, service response logistics, logistics measurement, customer value determination, customer service and third party logistics. Publications have appeared in such journals as the Transportation Journal , the International Journal of Physical Distribution and Materials Management , Interfaces ,and the Journal of Business Logistics . His research on top shippers has appeared in Logistics Management for the last nine years. Dr. Manrodt has made several presentations at national and international meetings, such as the Council of Logistics Management, the Institute for Industrial Engineers, the American Marketing Association (Vienna), the Canadian Association of Logistics Management, and the 8 th World Conference on Transportation. He has co-authored a book, Customer Responsive Management: The Flexible Advantage which was published in 1992. His newest book on logistics and supply chain measurement – Keeping Score: Measuring the Business Value of Logistics in the Supply Chain – was a joint effort with CSC for CLM, and was published in 1999. Dr. Manrodt has also had served the profession in a several forums. He has served as a Track Chairperson for the annual meeting of the Council of Logistics Management (1992), and on the Academic Advisory Board for the Efficient Healthcare Consumer Response (EHCR) task force. He also served as the faculty advisor for the students' Logistics and Transportation Association, at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Manrodt has taught and led several corporations in the areas of performance measurement, customer value determination, and corporate strategy. He has conducted executive teaching / lectures in Europe and the US, as well as seminars for Fortune 500 companies. Maciek NowakMr. Nowak is a recent hire to the College of Business. He hold
both an undergraduate and graduate degree from the Univeristy of Michigan
in Engineering. He is currently ABD from Ga Tech. A full
biography will be posted shortly. Dr. Rutner is an Associate Professor of Logistics and Intermodal Transportation at Georgia Southern University. He earned a Ph.D. in Logistics and Transportation from the University of Tennessee in 1995. Dr. Rutner also holds an MBA degree in Marketing and Logistics from the University of Alabama. His BA degree is from Millersville University of Pennsylvania in History. Dr. Rutner has participated in research and consulting projects with a variety of private companies, professional organizations and government agencies. His activities cover a wide array of logistics and marketing topics. Dr. Rutner has developed, implemented and analyzed national surveys for and about the transportation industry, conducted case studies regarding the value of logistics in the corporate environment, and advised logistics executives on current trends and emerging issues in logistics. Dr. Rutner has also developed an aggressive research agenda. His primary areas of research have been shipper-carrier alliances, airport and airline management, logistics measurement, and information technology. This research has led to numerous publications and presentations. He has had articles published in Transportation Quarterly, The International Journal of Physical Distribution ∓ Logistics Management, and International Journal of Transportation Planning and Technology. He has also made presentations at a variety of conferences, including the Airports Council International,Council of Logistics Management, Academy of Marketing Science, and Transportation Research Board. Dr. Rutner's professional experience is as diverse as his education. He spent over ten years in both the United States Army and Alabama National Guard. As an armor officer, he held a number of different positions from platoon leader of a tank platoon, brigade liaison officer, and battalion intelligence officer. He gained valuable logistics experience as an executive officer of a tank company. In that job, he was responsible for the maintenance, inventory, care, feeding, etc. of over 150 soldiers. Dr. Rutner also has civilian work experience with IBM. He worked in the Strategic Services Division in Strategic Alliances. He responsibilities included evaluating and managing partnerships worth over $250 million. Jerry W. Wilson, D.B.A EDUCATION Doctor of Business Administration, The University of Memphis, 1989. Major in Marketing with emphases in Transportation, and Management Science. PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYMENT Dr.Wilson is currently a tenured Professor of Logistics and Marketing at Georgia Southern University. He concurrently serves as the Associate Director of the Southern Center for Logistics and Intermodal Transportation housed within the Department of Information Systems and Logistics. He has been on the staff of the University for the past thirteen years. Prior to returning to school to pursue the doctorate, Dr. Wilson held the position of Administrative Vice-President and Senior Partner in a regional communications construction and consulting firm for a period of eight years. Dr. Wilson has served as a consultant to industry on a regular basis in such areas as shipbuilding, banking, transportation (both trucking and airfreight), civil engineering, and health care management and marketing. Dr. Wilson is also active in designing and presenting professional development courses. He was commissioned by the Singapore Port Institute to develop a course entitled, "The Marketing of Port and Shipping Services." This week-long course was presented to senior executives and directors of the Port of Singapore Authority in Singapore. Most recently, he has conducted seminars on intermodal distribution, executive communication and health care marketing. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Dr.Wilson is active in many professional associations, including Delta Nu Alpha Logistics and Transportation Association, the Intermodal Association of North America, the American Marketing Association, the Atlantic Marketing Association, and the Savannah, Georgia Traffic Club. He has served on the Board of Directors of Delta Nu Alpha for the past five years and is the Editor of the Journal of Transportation Management , jointly published by Delta Nu Alpha and Georgia Southern University. nbsp; He also serves on the Public Relations Committee of the Intermodal Association of North America. Dr. Wilson founded the student chapter of Delta Nu Alpha at Georgia Southern University in 1994 and serves as the chapter advisor. Since being chartered, the chapter has initiated well over 200 members. For the past four consecutive years, the chapter has received the Student Chapter of the Year Award from the national organization. No other student chapter in the history of Delta Nu Alpha has equaled this recognition. Along with Dr. Cameron Williams, Dr. Wilson pioneered the concept of faculty internships at Georgia Southern University. The concept involves placing faculty in various industry positions for brief periods in order to keep their knowledge current. Dr. Wilson has completed several such internships, including two weeks aboard a Hapag-Lloyd containership, and two weeks at the container terminal of the Georgia Ports Authority in Savannah. Over the past ten years, Dr. Wilson's work has appeared in such journals as the Public Relations Journal , Public Relations Quarterly , The Journal of Health Care Marketing , Review of Business , and the Marketing Education Review .
