The Southern Center for Logistics and Intermodal Transportation

The Southern Center is for Logistics and Intermodal Transportation is a division of the College of Business Administration (COBA).  Created in 1992 at the request of area industry leaders, the Center serves as the bridge between the logistics-related resources of the University an the larger business community engaged in logistics activities.  The Center´s activities focus on the rapidly growing areas of global logistics and all forms of intermodal distribution.  Collectively, the staff possesses a wealth of industry, research, and consulting experience across the logistics and transportation field.




Ongoing activities of the Center include:

  • Creating and managing the Intermodal Distribution Education Academy program for the International Intermodal Expo each year.

  • Editing and publishing Transportation Management Journal on behalf of Delta Nu Alpha.

  • Developing seminars and continuing education programs through COBA´s Center for Management Development.

  • Providing research and service support for regional, national, and international firms.


Current Research Projects include:

  • An examination of logistics and supply chain metrics.

  • Evaluation of the impact and interest of C-Level executives in logistics and SCM.

  • An update of the rankings of professional organizations, journals & universities' logistics programs.

  • A study of 3rd Party Logistics Companies.

  • Researching the appropriate levels of outsourcing in the airline and air cargo industry.


Research Opportunities:

The Southern Center has four full-time Logistics and Intermodal Transportation professionals with over 30 years of professional and 60 years of academic experience in our field.  If your company is considering a research project in the area of supply chain management, forecasting, performance measurement, or intermodal transportation, we encourage you to consider our Center.  We have the resources and expertise to provide you and your firm with the quality results you expect, with a reasonable investment of time and funds.
