The components of BIG are headquartered at Georgia Southern University’s City Campus. The City Campus is a joint city and university facility, situated off-campus in downtown Statesboro, that was developed to serve as a catalyst for regional economic development. In 2011, this effort led to the campus being awarded Georgia Downtown Association’s Best Commercial Redevelopment Activity Award.
BBRED is working with the City of Statesboro, the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority (DSDA), and the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and Learning to transform the City Campus to a regional hub of innovation and entrepreneurship. This requires the expansion of the existing facility and the development of new programs for students and community leaders.
The vision of the City Campus is:
- To develop a vibrant, creative and innovative community;
- To foster a culture of innovation that encourages business start-ups, business incubation and new job creation;
- To develop a system that enables entrepreneurs to create firms and graduate into the marketplace; and,
- To streamline services in a manner that concentrates services and maximizes output.
